Daddy

"What do you think the Starhub guy will say?" My dad piped, quite unable to repress the question, while kniving his dinner.

"To what?"

"My email." He allowed himself a small grin of childlike satisfaction.

"About?"

"Well, you know Starhub began a HBO package that provides three free channels with subscription? Sometime last month, they sent us a letter to let us know that as HBO and Cinemax subscribers, the channels will be given to us free of charge, as well."

He spooned his rice into his mouth, waiting like a seasoned storyteller making sure he had his audience feeding out his hand.

No such luck. So he decided it was better to move on. Quickly.

" Well, last week, I tried out the channels, but they werent available. So I wrote them an email.

Regretfully, they informed me that the new channels could only be installed on the date (with reference to each month) of subscription. They sent the letter in the middle of July, so since we subscribed on the 20th, the next available 20th would be the one in August.

So I wrote them another email - just - to tell them that since the channels were free, I don't think I should have to wait."

He paused with a clink of his silverware. I looked at him in dismay.

"You wrote that?"

"Yup."

"You're evil, you know."

He smiled mischievously, "Was I being unreasonable or rude?"

"Unreasonable!" I exclaimed

"No, I think he was more rude than unreasonable." My mom chided.

"Good." He quipped. "I intended to be both."

And he worked his way through dinner smiling with a happy, bright delight.
